Zlín – a town built literally on a green meadow by Tomáš Baťa and his family, who started to work here in the shoemaking industry. They built the first factories, a skyscraper and over two thousand orange brick Baťa houses, which gave Zlin its natural shade in the 1920s. We are so fond of Baťa that we named the local university after him, and even the local ice hockey team (one of the best in the republic) call themselves the Shoemakers.

But Zlín is not just Baťa! Stop by the film studios where Karel Zeman filmed his animated movies. Or go to the surrounding forests, literally five minutes from the center on all sides. Zlín is also a city full of unique functionalist architecture, beautiful parks and… us!

Don’t get lost, explore!

Nothing is far in Zlín. At least not in the center. Take a look in the map and walk. Find the best pubs, restaurants, parks and people. When you speak Czech, your are OK, with English or Spanish it’s worse. We prefer our hands and feet over words. Everyone understand pantomime, right? But don’t worry, we treat everybody with respect. If you doubt, look on this video. People from all over the world come to Zlín.
